Richard’s Big Fall

Richard of Littleton cherished his independence. The 82-year-old widower was rightfully proud, and a bit stubborn. He did not want to leave his home of 40+ years, even though his emphysema and the constant need for supplemental oxygen made it harder for him to move around the house.

In the middle of the night, during a routine trip to the bathroom, Richard fell, breaking his hip as he hit the cold, bathroom floor. The pain of his broken pelvis made it impossible to move. Richard knew that his grown daughters, who stop by regularly to check on him, were out of town on a mini-vacation together for three more days. Richard lay there helpless, but not hopeless.

Four years earlier, his concerned daughters contacted Security Central to provide Richard with a Medical Emergency transmitter that he wore on his wrist. Richard pushed the button. The Security Central Quick-C.A.R.E. Responders received his call for help and immediately notified the Littleton Fire Department and Richard’s neighbor. The paramedics arrived and rescued Richard from the bathroom floor.

Richard’s daughters, Deb and Jen, shudder at the thought of what would have happened to Dad had they not insisted on him wearing his Security Central Medical Emergency button!
